When it comes to keeping your feet warm, nothing quite beats a good pair of comfy, cosy slippers. Whether you’re lounging in the house watching tv, or preparing for autumn, a pair of slippers are the ultimate home comfort.
Whether you’re looking for a new pair of slippers for yourself, or maybe as a gift, at Hirst Footwear, we’ve got you covered.
Types of slippers for men
What slipper you choose for yourself, or as a gift for someone else, will all depend on personal preference.
However, if you’re not sure which slipper is right, we’ve listed some of the most popular styles below:
Moccasins
Moccasins are closed heel slippers which provide support for the back of your foot. They are slightly different to traditional closed heel slippers as they feature a two piece construction, with the stitching attaching the top sole to the midsole.
They’re often lined with either real, or faux, sheepskin, as their origins stem from the Native Americans.
Loafers
Loafers are very similar to Moccasins, stealing the two-piece construction and flat sole, but they lack the lacing or stitching between the top sole and midsole.
Other than this, the slippers are pretty similar, both being fur/wool lined as well as providing heel support.
Open Heel Slippers (Mules)
Open heel slippers are loved by many due to their convenience. They are extremely easy to slip on and off because, as the name suggests, they don’t have a heel. They are also often referred to as mules. Although they are more convenient than closed heel slippers, they can be more slip prone as there is no support on the back of your foot.
If you are looking for heel support, these will not be the slippers for you. But, if you are looking for easy and reliable slippers, open heeled ones could be the perfect choice.
Boot Slippers
Boot slippers are a favourite, mainly for the warmth and comfort they provide. They are shaped like regular boots, but made up of soft materials such as memory foam, wool and nylon.
Boot slippers are ideal for the colder months as they cover your foot and your ankle. However, most boot slippers provide very little ankle or sole support, so we would advise steering clear of these slippers if you require support in your footwear.
Slipper Socks
Slipper socks are the perfect pairing of socks and slippers. They protect your feet from the cold, and make walking on hard floors easy due to grips on the bottom of them. It's worth noting, they are less durable than actual slippers as they don’t have a sole.
Some slipper socks come fleece lined, providing your feet with extra warmth during the colder months.
Traditional Slippers
Traditional, standard slippers are made up of single-piece construction, full foot coverage and are usually finished with some kind of knit felt, suede or wool.
Some traditional slippers are lined with felt wool for additional warmth, and have stitching accents for design purposes.
Are slippers a good gift?
Yes, slippers make the perfect gift no matter what the occasion is. Slippers can be given to anyone, no matter the age or gender of the recipient. They are also very practical, making them an ideal gift especially during the colder seasons.
Here’s a few reasons why we think slippers make such good gifts:
- They’re great for families: We love slippers for families because they are ideal for every member!
- You’re giving a cosy gift: Nothing beats being cosy on cold days, and receiving a brand new pair of slippers is ideal when it's freezing outside.
- They look great: While the recipient of your gift may love their old, worn out slippers, gifting them brand new slippers will mean they can go back to wearing slippers that provide extreme comfort and heel support.
