Washing Skechers is important to keep your shoes looking fresh and functional. You need to be careful to maintain your Skechers Slip-Ins using the right equipment and techniques to avoid damage, allowing you to slip in and out of comfort in the long term.
How often should I wash my shoes?
We would recommend that you wash your shoes every couple of months. Of course, this is largely based on what you use your shoes for, and how clean you need them to be!
We suggest that you do not wash your shoes more often than once a week. This is because, whilst washing your shoes won’t cause any damage, excess cleaning may eventually lead to increased wear and tear.
Are Skechers Slip-Ins machine washable?
Most Skechers Slip-ins are machine washable, making it easy and efficient to revitalise your shoes without damaging quality.
To check whether your shoes are safe to go in the washing machine, visit our Skechers Slip-ins page and check that they are specified as ‘machine washable’ in the product description. Alternatively, your Skechers should have a ‘machine washable’ logo on the label.
How to avoid damage when machine washing Skechers Slip-ins
To avoid damage when machine washing your Skechers Slip-ins, we recommend that you put the shoes on a gentle cycle. Avoid high temperatures, as this can damage the fabric of your shoe, and may cause separation of the sole and the upper.
Another step which helps to avoid damage when machine washing shoes is to put them in a thin mesh bag or pillowcase. This helps by preventing the shoes from being battered around the drum too much, and allows the machine to spin them more effectively.
Hand washing your Skechers
Hand washing is useful for Skechers which are not machine washable, or if you do not have access to a machine for any reason.
Similar to machine washing, you should avoid high temperatures when hand washing shoes. It is also important to avoid harsh chemicals or bleaches when hand washing shoes, as this may cause colours/dyes to run, as well as damaging the fabric of the shoes.
How to hand wash Skechers Slip-ins
Here is our simple but effective guide to handwashing your shoes. Ensure that you follow these steps closely to avoid damaging your favourite shoes!
- Remove the laces from your shoes and wash separately. Oh wait! With Skechers Slip-ins, there are no laces, making them more convenient not only to put on and wear, but also to clean.
- Create your cleaning solution. Mix a small amount of non-harsh laundry detergent with water in a container or in your sink. You can even use washing up liquid for this stage, as it won’t damage your shoe.
- Use your hands or a cleaning hand brush to scrape off any superficial dirt or debris. Be sure to remember to scrape the soles of your shoes too, making sure you don’t miss any bits compacted into the gaps or ridges. You can also use some liquid detergent to treat any obvious stains or blemishes. Rub this in with your fingers, or using a fine bristled brush.
- Soak your Skechers Slip-ins in the solution you prepared earlier. Allow them 10-15 minutes to soak, making sure all of both shoes remain submerged the whole time so they are evenly cleaned.
- Use a cloth to gently scrub your shoes. A thin cloth, such as microfiber, should do the trick. However any fabric cloth which is soft and thin should do the trick. Scrub out any last bits of dirt, and again, don’t forget the soles!
- Rinse and dry. Once you’re done, rinse your shoes under cold to lukewarm running water, ensuring no soapy suds remain in the fabric. After this, let your shoes air dry and avoid putting them near any direct heat sources.
- Slip-in and go! Your Skechers Slip-ins should be as good as new again, so you can enjoy them in style and comfort, just like you always have.
